Alice Childs dos Santos

Alice is a Data Protection Advisor who obtained an undergraduate degree in Law from the University of Oxford. She then went on to study the Law and Economics LLM at Queen Mary University of London, where she competed at the Helsinki Information Law Moot. During her time in Oxford, Alice was elected the Junior Common Room President of New College, where she implemented an opt-out consent procedure for names appearing in the College newspaper.

Alice is known for producing in-depth data protection advice for clients concerning the application of the UK GDPR, and is currently studying for the CIPP/E data privacy certification.

Alice has supported organisations’ data privacy compliance through the completion of: Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs); Legitimate Interest Assessments (LIAs); Data Protection Audits; privacy notices; and Freedom of Information (FOI) requests. Alice has also produced advice notes on a variety of topics, including: data protection requirements for genomic data; the application of the Data Security and Protection Toolkit; and the requirements for freedom of information publication schemes.  Additionally, Alice has conducted research concerning the application of ICO enforcement on organisations in healthcare; the application of international privacy regimes; and recent privacy cases. Having attended data protection conferences representing IGS this year, Alice is keen to ensure she is kept up to date with changes to the data protection landscape.

As an advisor, Alice works to understand the nuances of emerging areas of data protection law. Alice is particularly interested in data ethics, and ways of its application to data privacy law.

Outside of work, Alice enjoys painting and rowing.
